• "In the Process of Making" is an online place to journal my thoughts about my life. Knitting, living in Philadelphia, graduate school, my dogs, books I'm reading, thought's I'm having, are all fodder for potential posts. My hope is to convey these musings with humor, compassion and familiarity for the reader.

2012, Year of Yarn and Wine

My two favorite inanimate objects are yarn and wine.  The words themselves seem to occupy the same space in my brain and on more than one occasion I have switched the words in sentences.  ”I could really use a glass of yarn.” In December of 2011, within one week, I was accepted into the Textile … Read more

Yarn School Fall 2011

To round everything out, we ate delicious home cooked food and got to pet many fiber-bearing animals including Alpacas, Angora bunnies (!), Pygora goats, and Shetland, Romney and Merino sheep. We even had a special visitor by the adopted name of Waffles

Philadelphia, PA

New habitat: Philadelphia Pennsylvania

Our neighborhood is called Germantown and it’s on the northwest side of Phila. It’s very very close to the suburbs. The closest suburb is called Mt Airy. Mt Airy is so cute it’s almost untrustworthy.

In the Process…

Let’s get one thing straight.  I’m a terrible blogger.  I don’t have the patience to sit down everyday (week or month) and write about something that is only marginally important.  I keep thinking about what else I could be doing, knitting, sewing, cooking, eating, choring (the heinous act of doing terribly boring chores).  I have … Read more

Baloo modeling the blanket

Crocheting a Sunday afternoon away…

I was not up for any socializing yesterday, so while the rest of Chicago (and the country for that matter) watched the Bears vs Packers championship game, I finished what I started.  Err, what someone else started.  A crocheted blanket.  I got the beginning of this blanket (about a  15″ x 15″ square) and the … Read more

Fall weddings and other busy things

It’s been one of those Falls where there is always something, some event, a party, a birthday or a few weddings, just around the corner and my blogging, among other things, has fallen victim.  I believe that the last post was about not getting the vacant store-front space to do the show.  We are still … Read more

Alas, the art show is no more… for now

I have just recieved word that the gallery space that we had arranged to use has been rented.  The owner of the space had agreed on the week and the price but his broker apparently lined up two rental agreements back to back that together total 5 years.  So, not surprisingly, our little week of … Read more

Calling all Humboldt Park Artists

G and I have been kicking around the idea of having an a Humboldt Park themed art show.  We live in a near-west Chicago neighborhood called Humboldt Park which is very diverse, fascinating and somewhat gritty.  It’s mostly a Puerto Rican neighborhood but is slowly being gentrified as the poor artists, and the students rent the apartments and the bank-loan … Read more

Landscape photos of Maine

Last week I promised that I would post only pictures, so that is what I’ve done today. This is from our recent trip to Maine.

Betterment

So…. (twiddling thumbs)…  I’ve been thinking and I’ve decided to wait to apply to graduate school.  I’m not putting it off entirely, but I’m pushing the application back a year.  I’d like more time to develop my body of art and my writing skills.   I had put myself on this deadline to get 20 or … Read more
